People who are mourning can benefit greatly from bereavement groups. The objective of this workshop is to:

  • Assist in normalizing the profound effects of grief;

  • Offer a safe, judgment-free environment for the griever to express his or her thoughts, feelings, and struggles;

  • Offer a forum for dealing with changes in identity, roles, and relationships;

  • Enable the participant to discover and develop inner and outer resources and learn coping mechanisms;

  • Encourage grievers to ask for and receive support, understanding, and compassion, as well as to offer support to others;

  • Assist participants in moving past their grief;

  • Prevent isolation and humiliation in a society that avoids mourning;

  • Support members as they embrace and absorb the truth of the loss, accepting the grief in "doses";

  • And build a compassionate community.
